Mobile Blogging (Moblog)

Have you heard about blogging from a mobile device, called moblogging?

At first thought, this sounds great -- whether you're in the middle of a road, or at the top of the Singapore Flyer, and you enter a quick blog entry from your phone, the convenience in sharing your thoughts with everyone virtually.

View this short podcast for a better understanding on the advantage of moblogging:

The video above has spoken about the advantage of Mobile blogging, let us now look into the disadvantage or shortcomings of this feature.
When you start thinking about it, doesn't it seem very tiring to enter text using a numeric keypad?

I know that many teenagers send many characters of SMS text to each other using only a numeric keypad, but comparing text messaging to blog entries is not really fair.

SMS messages are short and the people who use them have developed a skill which saves time and speeds up productivity. Blog entries, on the other hand, tend to be real prose, with long sentences and in many cases many paragraphs per blog entry.
If mobile blogging were to improve, it will most likely succeed on devices that have better input mechanisms than just a numeric keypad alone.

Apple Iphone, for example, has a keyboard-like mechanism when texting that makes it significantly easier to enter texts. Other device, like the BlackBerry also  includes a small QWERTY keyboard.
On the other hand, even if your phone isn't suitable for your posts, it may have a camera, and here I believe blogging and mobile devices can work together. It would be very convenient to be able to take pictures using your mobile phone, thereby uploading them directly to your blog.

You could add text later when you get to a computer with a keyboard or some may even allow you to add text after you have uploaded them..

One good example would be Flickr. It allows users to upload photos from their mobile devices now that, a page created for mobile blogging has been established.

Users could add in captions after uploading or they could also do so when they have a computer near them.
As for weblogging style, a well-known example would be blogger(blogspot) which caters to the posting of long essays by typing on a computer.

All in all, mobile blogging is not flawless, however, it solely depends on users' preference on the type of blogging methods that they wish to adopt.

Personally, I think that it would be beneficial if both types of blogging styles could be used one after another.

As we know, mobile blogging is able to compensate for the mobility factor that the normal blogging style lacks.

Then, the weblogging style can compensate for the hassle in typing long essays when needed.
